Don’t mind me, I’m discovering who I am. See it is one thing to know what you are doing but to know IF you should be doing it is more important. I’ve had moments where I’ve felt like a lightbulb has come on in my head. And in that moment I’m very certain about my identity. I’ve also had moments where it felt like someone took a bat to that lightbulb. I’ve come to realize that who we are evolves or I would even venture to say emerges.
Many of us have become what we needed to be to survive our world around us, and this either brought out our true selves or caused us to put on a mask and become someone else. I found myself being the latter but only after the outer layer was shed. Life forces your hand. You have to choose in a situation who you will be. I often start off as myself but over time I would become what people wanted me to be only to cut down on the strife and making others uncomfortable.
I am now in a place where I realize it is not my job to make everyone esle comfortable but it is my job to be all that God has called me to be. Identity is being sure that you are lined up with the will and word of God. It has nothing to do with fitting in but actually what is it about you that makes you stand out.
Me, what makes me different well there are lots of things but I love to serve others and see their needs met. I'm quiet but caring. Im stern but gracious. I love to love. My identity is not tied to my titles or what I do. We lose ourselves when we define ourself by what we do or making other's happy. I was challenged with the question "If I could not do what I do, who am I?" So I ask you the same question.
